Vet Books

Join our community by becoming a book vetter!

At Libraries for Liberation, we believe in the power of stories to inspire change. We are always searching for books that affirm readers’ racial and cultural identities and inspire us to take action for racial justice. You can get involved as a book vetter by taking these easy steps:

  1. Fill out the interest form. Tell us more about yourself and your interest in vetting books with us. The interest form includes fewer than ten required questions and takes about 15 minutes to fill out.
  2. Attend virtual orientation. Here, you will learn more about Libraries for Liberation and the book vetting process. Meet more of the Libraries for Liberation community, too!
  3. Read and evaluate your first book. Within a week of orientation, you’ll read and evaluate a specific children’s book using our book vetting form.
  4. Attend a virtual group discussion. Together, we’ll discuss our reactions to the book and compare our completed vetting forms. Congratulations, you’re now a Libraries for Liberation book vetter!
  5. Complete your volunteer plan. After reviewing our books list, you’ll decide which you want to evaluate during your first few months of volunteering with us and begin vetting books asynchronously.

All of the vetting forms submitted help us to decide which books our volunteers distribute to Little Free Libraries all around the country. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to our team at librariesforliberation2020@gmail.com.
